Discover the spiritual and cultural heart of Ladakh on this private 7-day journey through some of the region’s most important Buddhist monasteries, historic sites and spectacular Himalayan landscapes. Explore the magnificent monasteries of Thiksey, Hemis, Alchi and Lamayuru, visit the former royal residence of Shey Palace and experience the unique culture and landscapes of Nubra Valley.

This carefully designed journey combines Ladakh’s ancient Buddhist heritage with dramatic mountain scenery, traditional villages and high-altitude landscapes, while allowing sufficient time for acclimatization and a comfortable pace of travel.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Leh – Acclimatization

Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh, where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel.

Leh is situated at a high altitude, so the day is reserved for rest and acclimatization. Take time to relax and allow yourself to adjust to the altitude.

Later, if you feel comfortable, take a gentle walk around the local market.

Day 02: Leh – Thiksey Monastery – Shey Palace – Hemis Monastery

After breakfast, begin your exploration of Ladakh’s rich Buddhist heritage.

Visit Thiksey Monastery, one of the most impressive monasteries in Ladakh, renowned for its hilltop location, traditional architecture and beautiful views of the Indus Valley.

Continue to Shey Palace, the former royal residence of Ladakh, known for its large Buddha statue and panoramic views.

Later, visit Hemis Monastery, one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh and a major centre of Tibetan Buddhist culture.

Return to Leh in the evening.

Day 03: Leh – Alchi – Lamayuru – Leh

After breakfast, drive towards western Ladakh to explore some of the region’s most important cultural and historical sites.

Visit Alchi Monastery, famous for its ancient murals, sculptures and distinctive Indo-Tibetan Buddhist artwork.

Continue to Lamayuru, one of Ladakh’s oldest monastic settlements, surrounded by dramatic mountains and the fascinating Moonland landscape.

Explore Lamayuru Monastery and enjoy the spectacular Himalayan scenery before returning to Leh.

Day 04: Leh – Nubra Valley via Khardung La

After breakfast, drive towards Nubra Valley, crossing Khardung La, one of the region’s famous high mountain passes, subject to road and weather conditions.

Continue into Nubra Valley, known for its dramatic mountains, green villages and high-altitude desert landscapes.

On arrival, check in to your accommodation and spend the evening at leisure.

Day 05: Nubra Valley – Diskit – Hunder – Local Villages

After breakfast, explore the cultural and scenic highlights of Nubra Valley.

Visit Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra Valley, famous for its impressive Buddha statue overlooking the valley.

Continue to Hunder, known for its sand dunes, mountain scenery and traditional Bactrian double-humped camels.

Later, explore the surrounding villages and experience the peaceful local atmosphere of Nubra Valley.

Day 06: Nubra Valley – Leh

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Leh through the spectacular landscapes of Ladakh.

Cross the high mountain terrain towards Leh, subject to road and weather conditions.

On arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the evening at leisure. You may explore the local market or relax after the journey.

Day 07: Leh – Departure

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and transfer to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport for your onward flight.
